Founded in 1984, fueled by hunters and a growing membership of nearly 235,000 strong, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has conserved more than 7.4 million acres for elk and other wildlife. Additionally, RMEF opened or improved access to 1.2 million acres of land for hunters and other people to use and enjoy. RMEF also provides funding for habitat stewardship projects, advocates for science-based resource management and seeks to ensure the future of America’s hunting heritage.
RMEF recognizes that the recreational harvest of wildlife provides a healthy, sustainable source of nutrition, and does so in line with the North American Wildlife Conservation Model. In an effort to better support and understand the economic, social and conservation value of procuring wild food, RMEF fully supports the Wild Harvest Initiative® by shining a spotlight on the positive, measurable impacts of hunting and fishing.
